The Journey

Our very first annual virtual event took place September, 2021. “The Journey Event” was an unforgettable moment – with 100+ schools registered.

This event took place on Saturday 11th September, coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day.

We were joined by Honorable Nick Salat and Chief Administrative Secretary – Nadia Ahmed, who inspired us with powerful words of wisdom while encouraging all of us, especially leaders to invest in mental health. Senator Gideon Moi was supposed to join us, but due to other unavoidable commitments, he was unable to do so this time around.

Founder of Jenga Africa Sheilla Akwara had a candid conversation with her mother, Dr. Priscilla Idele, Principal Advisor at the United Nations, New York – about Sheilla’s troubled childhood and suicidal attempts as well as lessons learnt that could help other families.

Sharing their mental health journeys were Ann Mwaura of capital FM, Lawrence Muli of Facebook and David Maeri, founder of young visionaries.

We then dove into a candid conversation with Major Michael Kariuki founder of the Josiah Gathura Memorial Foundation- for a heart-to-heart conversation on his journey after losing his son to suicide.

Inspiring us with some golden advice and gems were Mandisa Glover, who is a mother, private chef and daughter of the famous actor Danny Glover; artist Bensoul, photographer Emmanuel Jambo, William Nanjero general manager of sol Generation records and Chao Tolle from capital FM.

And wait! we had more! Anne Soy of BBC, Waihiga Mwaura of Citizen TV and Artist Juliani mentored young people through their life journeys.

Lastly, the event would not have been complete without some wellness sessions full of inspiration, motivation and healing with Benjamin Zulu – Counseling Psychologist and life coach , Chiki Kuruka – Wellness Advisor and Brenda Onyango – Counseling Psychologist.

An unforgettable event. Tune in this Saturday, September 11th at 2pm.

This event was originally scheduled to be a private event only for schools, but we’ve decided to have the opening accessible to the public as this is a conversation that involves the society as a whole.
